Recently one of our Partners submitted his application and was interviewed for the position of Team Representative with the Federal Aviation Administration FAAST Team. One may ask what is the FAAST Team?
The FAAST Team has as its mission statement; to
Lower the Nation’s aviation accident rate by conveying safety principles and practices through training, outreach, and education; while establishing partnerships and encouraging the continual growth of a positive safety culture within the aviation community.
The National FAASTeam develops standardized safety interventions for General Aviation (GA), and supports other safety initiatives such as UAS, Next-Gen, Runway Safety and the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC) Safety Enhancements, etc. These are included in the FAASTeam National Performance Plan (NPP). In addition, there is flexibility built into the program that affords the FPMs the ability to innovate locally, and respond to localized safety issues through:
- Accident/incident reports involving airmen from the area
- Hazards identified by FAA Inspectors at local Flight Standards District Offices
- Information from the local aviation community
FAASTeam program management applies a Safety Risk Management approach, using system safety principles, risk prioritization, and new technology concepts. The FAASTeam uses system safety techniques to shift the safety culture towards the reduction of aviation accidents.
FAASTeam Representatives are Aviation safety volunteers who wish to work closely with FAASTeam Program Managers (FPM) and local aviation communities to actively promote safety. FPMs train these volunteers provide them with equipment and materials.
Within this FAAST Team is a position called Drone Pros. DronePros are FAASTeam volunteers who work closely with the FAA to promote safety in their local area. These volunteers are interviewed and trained by the FAA and are provided with equipment and materials to help them plan events and give presentations. A DronePro may be able to come talk to your students or setup a flight demonstration.
This is a highly distinguished program within the Aviation community. We wish our staff member well in his endeavors.
